This data reflects enrollment taken on Oct. 2, 2024, for the 2024-2025 school year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1.\tOverall Nonpublic Enrollment.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In October 2024, New York nonpublic school enrollment was 382,457 \u2013 a slight increase of 1,056 (+0.28%) from the previous year\u2019s enrollment of 382,401. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2025\/05\/Figure-1-1024x478.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"350\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-253\" srcset=\"https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2025\/05\/Figure-1-1024x478.png 1024w, https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2025\/05\/Figure-1-300x140.png 300w, https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2025\/05\/Figure-1-768x359.png 768w, https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2025\/05\/Figure-1-1536x718.png 1536w, https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2025\/05\/Figure-1-2048x957.png 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is the fourth year nonpublic school enrollment has stayed steady around 380,000. Before 2020, the state experienced 8 years of nonpublic school enrollment decline.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Enrollment Trends by Religious Affiliation.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In general, in 2024-25 Jewish and Muslim schools grew while enrollment in other schools declined. Excluding students listed as \u201cungraded\u201d:<br \/>\n\u2022\t<strong>Jewish Schools<\/strong> grew by 4,537 students \u2013 an increase of 2.7% over the prior year.<br \/>\n\u2022\t<strong>Catholic Schools<\/strong> shrunk by -2,784 students \u2013 a decrease of -2.5% over the prior year.<br \/>\n\u2022\t<strong>Independent Schools<\/strong> shrunk by -458 students \u2013 a decrease of -0.6% over the prior year.<br \/>\n\u2022\t<strong>Christian Schools<\/strong> shrunk by -244 students \u2013 a decrease of -3.1% over the prior year.<br \/>\n\u2022\t<strong>Muslim Schools<\/strong> grew by 450 students \u2013 an increase of 8.1% over the prior year.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2025\/05\/Figure-2-1024x535.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"392\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-254\" srcset=\"https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2025\/05\/Figure-2-1024x535.png 1024w, https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2025\/05\/Figure-2-300x157.png 300w, https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2025\/05\/Figure-2-768x402.png 768w, https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2025\/05\/Figure-2-1536x803.png 1536w, https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2025\/05\/Figure-2-2048x1071.png 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As of 2024-2025, the group that had the most K-12 students were <strong>Jewish<\/strong> schools with 172,673 students (45% of the total). This was followed by <strong>Catholic<\/strong> schools with 106,630 students (27.9% of the total), <strong>Independent<\/strong> Schools with 73,663 students (19.3% of the total), <strong>Christian<\/strong> schools with 7,719 students (2.0% of the total), and <strong>Muslim<\/strong> schools with 5,973 students (1.6% of the total).<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.\tEnrollment Trends in Jewish Schools.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Overall enrollment in Jewish Schools grew by 4,537 students \u2013 a +2.7% increase over the prior year. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2025\/05\/Figure-3-1024x563.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"412\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-255\" srcset=\"https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2025\/05\/Figure-3-1024x563.png 1024w, https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2025\/05\/Figure-3-300x165.png 300w, https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2025\/05\/Figure-3-768x422.png 768w, https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2025\/05\/Figure-3-1536x844.png 1536w, https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2025\/05\/Figure-3-2048x1125.png 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>3.1 Jewish Enrollment Growth by Region.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Growth in Jewish schools was concentrated in <strong>Monroe (+2,075, +12.6%); New York City (+1,023, +1.0%); and Monsey (+981, +2.8%). Some growth was also seen in Catskills (+191, +18.4%); Long Island (+229, +2.7%); Westchester (+26, +1.3%); and Rochester (+28, +12.6%). <\/strong><br \/>\nJewish school enrollment declined slightly in <strong>Albany (-8, -4.5%); and Other Areas (-8, -5.6%).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2025\/05\/Figure-4-1024x541.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"396\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-256\" srcset=\"https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2025\/05\/Figure-4-1024x541.png 1024w, https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2025\/05\/Figure-4-300x159.png 300w, https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2025\/05\/Figure-4-768x406.png 768w, https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2025\/05\/Figure-4-1536x812.png 1536w, https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2025\/05\/Figure-4-2048x1083.png 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>3.2 Enrollment Trends by Jewish Category.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Chassidic Schools<\/strong> saw the largest enrollment growth, with an additional enrollment of <strong>3,881 students (+4.0%).<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Yeshivish Schools<\/strong> \u2013 defined as Orthodox schools where students are gender-segregated \u2013 saw slight enrollment growth, with an additional enrollment of <strong>451 students (+0.9%).<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Modern Orthodox Schools<\/strong> \u2013 defined as Orthodox schools that are coed \u2013 saw some enrollment growth, with an increase of <strong>224 students (+1.3%).<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Non-Orthodox Schools<\/strong> saw a minimal decrease in enrollment with a decline of <strong>19 students (-0.5%). <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2025\/05\/Figure-5-1024x487.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"357\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-257\" srcset=\"https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2025\/05\/Figure-5-1024x487.png 1024w, https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2025\/05\/Figure-5-300x143.png 300w, https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2025\/05\/Figure-5-768x365.png 768w, https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2025\/05\/Figure-5-1536x730.png 1536w, https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2025\/05\/Figure-5.png 1985w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The New York Department of Education has released updated enrollment data for New York nonpublic schools.
