This data reflects the enrollment published in April 2026, for the 2025-2026 school year.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><strong>1.\u00a0 Overall Nonpublic Enrollment.<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10.0pt 0in\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">In September 2025, MD K-12 nonpublic school enrollment was <b>103,627 \u2013 a minor decrease (-2.1%)<\/b> from the previous year\u2019s enrollment of 105,838. This is the third consecutive year of decline following a peak of 111,622 students in 2022-23 \u2013 the highest enrollment level in the eighteen years of available data. Since the 2013-14 school year, Jewish enrollment has grown for twelve consecutive years, with an average annual growth rate of 1.8%.<\/p>\n<h1><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-522\" src=\"https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/09\/Figure-2-750x299.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"775\" height=\"309\" srcset=\"https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/09\/Figure-2-750x299.png 750w, https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/09\/Figure-2-300x120.png 300w, https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/09\/Figure-2-150x60.png 150w, https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/09\/Figure-2-768x307.png 768w, https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/09\/Figure-2-1536x613.png 1536w, https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/09\/Figure-2-2048x817.png 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 775px) 100vw, 775px\" \/><\/h1>\n<p>This continued growth reflects a healthy pipeline of students. A closer look at the components of that growth \u2013 new students entering the youngest grades versus losses among continuing students \u2013 is shown below.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>3. <span style=\"font-size: 16px\">\u00a0<\/span>2025-26 Jewish Enrollment Change by Region.<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Growth in Jewish schools over the past year was concentrated in the <strong>Baltimore Area (+120, +1.9%),<\/strong> consisting of schools in Baltimore City and Baltimore County.<\/p>\n<p>We saw modest growth in the <strong>Montgomery County Area (+16, +0.7%)<\/strong>, consisting of schools in Bethesda, Rockville, and Silver Spring.<\/p>\n<p>For the first time a new Jewish school was reported in <strong>Columbia<\/strong>: Tamim Academy enrolling five Kindergarten students. The single Jewish school in Washington D.C.<strong> \u2013 <\/strong>the Milton Gottesman Jewish Day School \u2013 is not accounted for in this report.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-523\" src=\"https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/09\/Figure-3-750x399.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"330\" srcset=\"https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/09\/Figure-3-750x399.png 750w, https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/09\/Figure-3-300x160.png 300w, https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/09\/Figure-3-150x80.png 150w, https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/09\/Figure-3-768x409.png 768w, https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/09\/Figure-3-1536x817.png 1536w, https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/09\/Figure-3.png 1718w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/p>\n<h4><strong>4.\u00a0 2025-26 Jewish Enrollment Change by Affiliation.<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Most Jewish categories grew in 2025-26.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Orthodox \u2013 Single Gender Schools<\/strong> (referred to as Yeshivish in the prior report) \u2013 defined as Orthodox schools where students are gender-segregated \u2013 grew by <strong>82 students (+1.4%)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Orthodox \u2013 Coed Schools<\/strong> (referred to as Modern Orthodox in the prior report) \u2013 defined as Orthodox schools that are coed \u2013 grew by <strong>32 students (+3.3%)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Non-Orthodox Schools<\/strong> grew by <strong>27 students (+1.5%)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>No growth was observed in<strong> Chassidic Schools<\/strong>.<a style=\"text-decoration: none;position: relative;top: -0.5em;font-size: 72%\" href=\"#_ftn1\">1<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-524\" src=\"https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/09\/Figure-4-750x516.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"533\" height=\"367\" srcset=\"https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/09\/Figure-4-750x516.png 750w, https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/09\/Figure-4-300x206.png 300w, https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/09\/Figure-4-150x103.png 150w, https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/09\/Figure-4-768x528.png 768w, https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/09\/Figure-4-1536x1056.png 1536w, https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/09\/Figure-4.png 1569w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 533px) 100vw, 533px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a style=\"text-decoration: none;position: relative;top: -0.5em;font-size: 72%\" href=\"#_ftn1\">1<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 11.5px\">Cheder D&#8217;Kahal Chassidim is Maryland&#8217;s only Chassidic school in the dataset (43 students in 2024-25). Enrollment data was not available for 2025-26 so the previous year\u2019s enrollment was used as an estimate and shifted up one year.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><strong>5.\u00a0 Long-Term Jewish Enrollment Trends by Region<em>.<\/em><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Growth in Jewish school enrollment since 2022-23 was concentrated almost entirely in the <strong>Baltimore Area <\/strong><strong>(+416 students, +6.7%)<\/strong>. In contrast, enrollment declined since 2022-23 in the <strong>Montgomery County<\/strong> <strong>area (-61 students, -2.7%)<\/strong>, which includes Bethesda, Rockville, and Silver Spring.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-525\" src=\"https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/09\/Figure-5-750x319.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"722\" height=\"307\" srcset=\"https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/09\/Figure-5-750x319.png 750w, https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/09\/Figure-5-300x127.png 300w, https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/09\/Figure-5-150x64.png 150w, https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/09\/Figure-5-768x326.png 768w, https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/09\/Figure-5-1536x652.png 1536w, https:\/\/teachcoalition.org\/content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2026\/09\/Figure-5-2048x870.png 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 722px) 100vw, 722px\" \/><\/p>\n<h4><strong>6.\u00a0 Enrollment Trends by Jewish Affiliation.<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Changes in Jewish school enrollment since 2022-23 varied substantially by affiliation. <strong>Yeshivish (Orthodox, single-gender) schools<\/strong> accounted for nearly all enrollment growth, increasing by <strong>401 students (+7.3%)<\/strong> to <strong>5,904 students<\/strong> in 2025-26. This was the largest increase among all affiliation groups and continues a long-term pattern of sustained growth in the Yeshivish sector.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Modern Orthodox (coeducational) schools<\/strong> experienced modest growth, increasing by <strong>24 students (+2.4%)<\/strong> to <strong>1,004 students<\/strong>. In contrast, <strong>Non-Orthodox schools<\/strong> declined by <strong>34 students (-1.8%)<\/strong> to <strong>1,866 students<\/strong>, while <strong>Chassidic schools<\/strong> decreased by <strong>31 students (-41.9%)<\/strong> to <strong>43 students<\/strong>.
