What This Means For New York

For the first time ever, a federal tax credit scholarship program is the law of the land. Taxpayers who donate to a Scholarship Granting Organization receive a federal tax credit for 100% of their gift — up to $1,700 — and that money funds scholarships for eligible K-12 students.

But there is a catch: the program only reaches students in states that choose to opt in. The decision rests with Governor Hochul. With broad, bipartisan support across the country, New York has a once-in-a-generation opportunity to bring this benefit home to our families — at no cost to the state.

No Cost to New York
The program is funded by federal tax credits — opting in does not cost the state a single dollar.
