The Mandated Services application on the NYSED Business Portal is expected to open in January, giving schools more than 2 months to file claims before the April 1st deadline. Remember that NYSED is required by law to disperse your funds by June 1st, so there is no long wait for these critical dollars. Although your school will receive funds in a timely manner, you may still be required to provide back-up documentation and answer questions for NYSED reviews. Please don’t forget to resolve these issues quickly—if you have unresolved reviews from the previous year, you aren’t able to file a claim for the new year.
The last two years allocations for Mandated Services were lower than the requested funds from school claims, resulting in a 5% shortfall in 23-24(22-23 claim year) and a 6% shortfall in 24-25 (23-24 claim year). The shortfalls are adding up, and substantial advocacy work has been done by both Teach NYS and its coalition partners to address the issue. We are hoping for a quick resolution so that you will get the balance of the money your school is legally owed by NYSED.
As always, if you have any questions, reach out to our Director of Mandated Services, Mrs. Leah Grossman at grossmanl@teachcoalition.org.
