Key NYSED Training Updates

As part of our ongoing support helping schools understand NYSED requirements, we want to share the new NYSED guidance for the Mandated Reporter training required for most school staff.

NYSED has expanded the Mandated Reporter curriculum to include guidance on identifying abuse or maltreatment in children with intellectual or developmental disabilities. This update applies to all mandated reporters, including certified educators.

Here are the key points schools should be aware of:

Teach NYS has partnered with NYSPCC to help schools train staff over the last year. As of January 20, 2026, NYSPCC are officially operating under their new name, Healing New York. Healing New York confirmed their curriculum has been fully updated since July 2025. Other providers may have updated their curriculum along the same timeline, but schools should confirm this directly with their chosen provider.

Training Options for Teach NYS Member Schools

Healing New York continues to provide NYSED-required workshops at discounted rates for Teach NYS member schools. Schools can choose between self-paced online courses or virtual and in-person sessions.

Self-paced online option:

Healing New York offers virtual or in-person sessions (in NYC only).
