NPSE Year 11 & 12  Big Changes and Bigger Opportunities Ahead

The Nonpublic School Safety Equipment (NPSE) program has become one of the most valuable resources from NYSED for strengthening school safety, security, and basic infrastructure. With the long-awaited joint release of Year 11 and Year 12 expected soon, this is the ideal time for schools to start organizing documentation and planning ahead, so they’re ready to take full advantage of the funding.  And this year, there’s even more to be excited about!

In Year 10, schools received approximately $120 per student, based on a total statewide allocation of $45 million. For Year 11, the allocation remains at that $45 million level. A competitive grant that was supposed to be allocated from the $45 million has been put on hold, so all the dollars will go towards the schools’ per student allocation.

The big headline, however, is Year 12. Funding will rise to $70 million, a 55% increase, creating new possibilities for schools to take on larger, more meaningful safety and security projects. Schools can also explore capital-eligible improvements, and NYSED’s approved list can be found here.

Since Years 11 and 12 will be released together, the allocations will be very high, more than 2 ½ times the year 10 allocation. Schools that pull together invoices, proof of payment, enrollment data, and vendor documentation in advance of the application release will be in the best position to submit smoothly and secure the maximum reimbursement available.

Teach NYS will continue to keep schools informed on the process, RFP updates, timelines, and any changes as they develop. We are also available to support our member schools throughout their preparation and documentation.

This is a rare opportunity with more funding, more flexibility, and more room to strengthen what matters most: the safety and well-being of our students. Preparing early will make all the difference.
