On The Security Front: How To Respond To Texas

STEM LogoIn the wake of the horrific attack on Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville, Texas, we must strengthen our defenses against the violence and hate directed at Jewish communities. While there are many practical steps we can take to protect our communities, Teach Coalition and OU Advocacy have been lobbying Congress  to increase funding for the Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP) to help our synagogues and schools remain safe places for us to pray, learn and celebrate.

Our community’s security is the reason why OU Advocacy spearheaded the creation of NSGP 15 years ago, and why we are leading the fight for more funding today. Additionally, in conjunction with our coalition partners in New York State, we worked to increase the Nonpublic School Security Equipment (NPSE) program from $15 million to $45 million to provide reimbursements to schools for security equipment, upgrades, and personnel, greatly enhancing the security of our schools.

Teach NYS has been working for the past six years on NSGP grants for schools and shuls. We have also now begun providing assistance with the detailed procurement process for organizations who already received grants. We offer a transparent, user-friendly process and write high-quality grants at a reasonable rate. Please contact rybsteinr@teachcoalition.org for more information.
