We know that many of you are wondering about the annual Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP) that was recently announced by FEMA. Our grants team, Project Protect has been closely monitoring the NSGP release and believes that the application period will begin in the early Fall. While there are still a few weeks until then, we assume that the submission process will have a very short turnaround. There are preparatory steps that you should take now being that there is still much uncertainty around the grant release. If you have questions about the current situation, please reach out to Rebekah Rybstein at RybsteinR@teachcoalition.org or to Yosef Kanofsky at KanofskyY@teachcoalition.org.
- Make sure that you have a current vulnerability assessment that reflects the security measures you will be applying for. The general consensus is that the assessment should have been completed within the last 3 years.
- You will need to obtain a Unique Entity ID (UEI). This is issued by federal government on the sam.gov website and is free to obtain. The registration process takes around 15 minutes.
- Maintain your organization’s prequalified status on the Statewide Financial System (SFS).
NSGP Quick Facts
-
- Organizations can apply for up to $200,000 in security expenses, including: equipment, training, security personnel, and cybersecurity expenses.
- Your application will need to be completed on the Fiscal Year 2025 Investment Justification (IJ) form, which can be found on the grants.gov website, under Related Documents and then Other Supporting Documents.
- If you’ve never received NSGP funding before, consider applying now! 15 bonus points will be added to your application score.
- Your grant applications and other required documents will need to be submitted on the E-Grants portal.
As always, we will keep you informed once we receive more information, including the grant submission deadline from the NY Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (DHSES).
SCAHC UPDATE
Later this fall, we anticipate the release of Securing Communities Against Hate Crimes (SCAHC) grant by the NY Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS). This grant, and the preparations involved, are very similar to the NSGP, except that funding for security personnel is not an eligible expense.
We are offering an early-bird discount, available until August 31st, 2025, for organizations that commit now to having our grants team write and submit your SCAHC applications. Please email RybsteinR@teachcoalition.org for more information.
