Seeking More Eligible, Reimbursable STEM Teachers?

The best way to increase your STEM reimbursement (and a major way to enhance quality of education) is to help your teachers earn masters degrees in education. How can Teach NYS help with that?

Well, in case you haven’t heard, we’ve partnered with three different colleges/universities to offer STEM teachers at our member schools customized, reduced-price master’s programs. Each program will ensure your STEM teachers become eligible for salary reimbursement through NYSED’s MST program. To help you understand the impact of a newly eligible teacher on your school, here are a couple examples: A half-time STEM teacher, once eligible for reimbursement, will secure you about $30,000 per year in reimbursements; a full-time teacher would be about $60,000. Again, this is per year.

Our master’s partnership program options, which reflect 27%-54% off regular tuition (exclusive Teach NYS discounts!), will each cost around $10,000 for entire degree program. All application and other fees are waived, as well. If you pay $10,000 for one of your full-time teachers to earn a master’s degree, your return-on-investment will earn your school an astounding 6x return… in the first application year alone! In other words, a $10,000 investment in your teacher will secure you a $60,000 return with another $60,000 the following year and so on. It’s a no-brainer. Even better? As Teach NYS continues to successfully advocate for higher pots of funding (we have so far increased the pot from $5 million in 2017-18 to $75.5 million in 2024-25), the reimbursement should actually increase year after year.

If you’d like your teachers to enroll, please be in direct touch with Adam Katz (katza@teachcoalition.org) for information on how to apply. The application deadlines are fast approaching, so act now!

Additionally, although the STEM/AMTS applications have not yet been released by NYSED, now is the time to begin (if you haven’t already) collecting documentation for your applications. Regardless of when the applications are released, the STEM deadline will remain August 1, since that deadline is part of the STEM legislation. Therefore, you should immediately begin confirming names of your applicant teachers, collecting eligibility proof and evidence of employment, and compiling individual and master schedules. We are happy to help member schools through this entire process, from A-Z.
