STEM Update and Year 9 Application Changes

There are important updates from the STEM (MST) Teacher Reimbursement program for the 25-26 school year applications as well as the Year 7 (23-24) ORISS reviews.

We are working with our member schools to have their 25-26 (Year 9) application components – schedules, credentials, course descriptions, etc. – fully prepared and complete by June 1st. Our staff take the heavy lifting of application compilation off your shoulders, but to do that, we must complete it all by this deadline. After that, and once ORISS releases the application, we’ll finish your applications and upload and submit them on the NYSD Business Portal.

There are several items that you should pay attention to on the Year 9 applications:

The Year 7 Reviews by ORISS are proceeding well with more than 60% of the applications statewide being reviewed. Pay close attention to emails you receive from NYSED about your applications as they contain requests for clarifications and documentation that can affect your reimbursement. Your school’s CEO on SEDREF will be the contact who will receive emails. Please reach out to our staff if you don’t know who is listed on SEDREF.

If you receive an email that your applications have been “unsubmitted,” it means that NYSED is requesting clarifications or fixes and cannot approve the applications as they are. Do NOT ignore that email. Please send it to Adam Katz for review. Likewise, if your school receives an email detailing the issues that need fixing, please reply to the email from NYSED and loop in Adam Katz, noting that he will be helping resolve the emails, again.

We’ve established a great collaboration with ORISS to address issues and believe that this is going to help move the Year 7 application process along as quickly as possible.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Adam Katz at katza@teachcoalition.org.
