STEM Year 7 Update

Unfortunately, Year 7 (23-24) applications, submitted by August 1, 2024 have still not been reviewed by NYSED. This is deeply concerning as in the past reimbursements have been awarded anywhere from a year to a year-and-a-half from the due date. It is safe to say that Year 7 awards will not be awarded even within this timeframe as it’s already been nearly a year-and-a-half since original submissions.

NYSED has reached out to us and other nonpublic school organizations to help upload all email-submitted Year 7 MST and Year 1 AMTS applications to the NYSED business portal. Their goal is to streamline their STEM/MST and AMTS application reviews and hopefully speed up the reimbursement timelines. We are currently in the process of converting applications from PDF versions to portal-ready versions and uploading applications for our member schools that request such assistance.

All future rounds of MST/STEM and AMTS applications will need to be submitted via the NYSED Business Portal. Additionally, your Year 8 MST/STEM and Year 2 AMTS (2024-25) applications will need to be resubmitted on the portal. We’ll keep you posted on timelines for that and offer the same assistance as we are currently offering.

Our STEM staff works on around 30% of the applications for this program statewide, and we are more than prepared for this challenge.

We have reached out to member schools with necessary information over the last few weeks, so please expedite your replies and action items that we have requested. We believe that, ultimately, the portal submission requirement will help NYSED with their reviews and expedite the issuing of the reimbursements.

We appreciate your understanding and will be sharing regular updates as we have them. If you have any questions, please reach out to our STEM director, Adam Katz, at katza@teachcoalition.org.
