Teach Florida Applauds Passing of Increased Security Funding for Jewish Institutions Amidst Rise in Antisemitism

November 8, 2023Florida legislators made a historic move to increase security funding for Jewish institutions across the state. This funding includes $25 million to secure Jewish day schools and $20 million to fund the new State NSGP (Non-Profit Security Grant) program.

Teach Florida thanks key proponents of the bill including Speaker Paul Renner, Rep. Randy Fine, Senator Alexis Calatayud and Governor Ron DeSantis. The unanimous support is yet another testament of this administration’s commitment to Florida’s Jewish community.

As a result of this legislation, thousands of Jewish Day Schools across Florida will be able to better secure their facilities and protect their students.

Melissa Glaser, Executive Director, Teach Florida stated, “We at Teach Florida applaud Governor DeSantis and the administration for this extraordinary effort to protect our children and our communities during these uncertain times. With antisemitic threats and incidents on the rise since Oct. 7th, the Florida Jewish community needs this funding to ensure that we can continue to educate our children in safety and security without added financial burden on our schools and families.”
