In December 2022, the New York State Education Department (NYSED) released the school allocations for the fourth year of the STEM program’s operation, corresponding to the 2020-2021 school year. We analyzed the results and here is what we found:
- NYSED received approximately 1,800 applications for STEM Year 4, higher than the previous year’s 1,600 applications.
- NYSED approved applications worth a total of $89.9M. Since only $30M was allocated in the budget for STEM Year 4, all applications were prorated at 33%.
- In all, 307 schools received allocations, with an average award of $97,720. These schools enrolled a total of 93,296 students in grades 3-12, reflecting an average award of $322 per pupil.
- Overall, Teach NYS member schools and schools that Teach NYS assisted with their applications received significantly higher allocations than their peers.
